Dialects are a major part of language diversity and simply make it unique. Regional differences aren’t just exciting, they also provide the learner with an insight into the culture. Like most widely spoken languages, German has many different dialects too.
Join us for an online panel discussion held by German teachers of the Deutsch Centre International. Every one grew up in a different German-speaking geographical area and will be able to share their experiences when incorporating expressions and variations of regional dialects in their teaching.
You will get an overview of German dialects and the difference between dialects and accents. Using an array of written and spoken examples, we hope to delve deeper into cultural memory that dialects are an important part of. We aim to highlight their relevance to language teaching and consider future efforts to raise the importance of regional dialects in lessons. We will also share the AQA examiner’s response to the use of dialects in German speaking exams.
